Can I Eat Cheese Please? Dr. Murphy discovers the benefits of Buffalo Dairy as she talks Irelands First Buffalo herd owner

Macroom Buffalo Farm

I met up with Kieran Lynch, from Macroom Buffalo Farm. The video of that will be coming along shortly.

The buffalo were absolutely beautiful animals, very friendly and so unique.  We had a super time there from bringing the buffalo to the milking parlour, and chatting to the cheese maker amongst other things. I’m super excited for the video which will be coming along soon.

Cheese Issues

One of the issues with dairy products , in particular cheese, is their fat content.

The trick is to know difference between good fats and bad and the amounts of both in our diet and of course moderation.

Check out the video blog on that here!

Fat & Cholesterol

Buffalo Mozzarella is lower in fat, saturated fat and lower in cholesterol than for e.g cheddar cheese. The same applies to feta and ricotta.

Buffalo Mozzarella contains higher amounts of Vitamin A, Vitamin E & Vitamin C which are antioxidants.

It also contains more calcium than regular dairy cows milk.

The Mediterranean Diet

Buffalo Mozarella cheese, ricotta, and feta cheese are considered part of the Mediterranean Diet.

Again, moderation is key!

Additional benefits

Probiotics which are beneficial for gut health.

(Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus fermentum)

Lower lactose content so it is easier to digest for some people.
